In this study we preform a lab experiment to explore the connection that IT Identity may have in the process of recognizing a moral issue when using a website. The moral issue being explored is digital piracy – specifically the unauthorized consumption of copyrighted material on a streaming website. We tie the established model of the formation of trusting beliefs into a familiar and an unfamiliar website and see how subjects react when a platform they are using reveals unambiguously that it was being to surpass digital copyright.
