Cognitive biases significantly influence decision-making processes. With the increasing use of visualization, researchers are looking into the relationship between cognitive biases, visualizations and decision-making. While providing good visualizations is important, mitigating cognitive bias requires starting from the perspective of visualization users. Training is advocated as the primary approach to mitigate cognitive bias. However, the effectiveness of training on mitigating cognitive bias in visualization users has received less attention. This study developed a system, namely a Visualization Education Platform (VEP), that aims to enhance the utility of information visualizations and overcome cognitive biases when using visualizations. This system is designed for decision-makers who use visualizations and the designers who create them. VEP equips (a) decision-makers with an understanding of good visualizations and recognition of cognitive biases and (b) visualization designers with a better understanding and ways to mitigate biases when designing visualizations. VEP is evaluated using multiple analysis methods and literature.
